Seriously...Get Me On Stage!!!

I had my very first choir concert with Womens' Chorus just barely and it was soooooooo good to be onstage again! I've always loved singing in choirs (especially choirs that you know are way good...) and it was the best feeling to be singing for people again. I love our conductor, Sister Applonie, because she really really knows what she's talking about so I feel like she makes me smarter, plus she's super funny all the time.

Tiny problem...the concert made me realize how much I miss being on stage and I seriously started crying during the standing ovation on Thursday. (that is NOT cheesey it's the truth!!) Plus I saw Hairspray at the Scera last week which was AMAZING! I have a bunch of friends in that show and you could honestly tell them a part from the rest of the cast; they were clearly the best ones. One of my best friends, Ashlyn, is like, the best performer ever (I'm not just saying that) and she just has this face she does when she's on stage and it's like...she's inviting you to this way fun party that she's having up on stage. And I was watching the show and I was like, "I WANNA COME!!! I wanna come to the party Ash!!"

So I've been in a 'missing Acting Up' mood this week. I keep watching the JRB (our musical review that we took 1st place with at competition) video on facebook and looking at pictures and singing Les Mis songs all over the place. Actually funny story...I was walking home from my concert last night and I was singing Javert's Suicide under my breath..."Who is this man? What sort of devil is he, to have me caught in a trap and choose to let me go free?"... and this guy heard me and looked all creeped out and then walked away really fast. Yes, this is what I've become. A creepy Les Mis junkie who sings to herself in public places and cries when people clap for her. Nice.

No water for the sippers...you gotta be in it for the long haul

Nowhere in the HFAC can you just simply get a drink of water out of a drinking fountain. Because all the music people who reside in that building love to carry around thier little waterbottles and fill them up at every available fountain. Are they empty? Doesn't matter. Fresh water must be had at all times meaning that even a bottle 3/4 full must be emptied and promptly refilled. Line of 8 thirsty people waiting impatiently? Still doesn't matter. Water is everything in the HFAC. Fight to the death.

Kelly + Holland + Chocolate Milk

Clearly I had a wonderful weekend.

For those of you who don't know, I absolutely LOVE Kelly Clarkson. Like literally she is one of my heroes. I was priviledged enough to get FREE (thank you Jo) tickets to her concert last Saturday and it seriously was one of the most fantastic things my ears have ever been blessed to hear. She has suuuuuch an amazing voice and I love like, every single one of her songs. (And for those of you wondering, this is NOT one of those things where I went to her concert and realized, 'Oh yeah, she's so good, I love her.' No. I have been looking forward to this moment since I was in like 7th grade and I was a true Kelly fan BEFORE the concert. I didn't take one second for granted.) My friend Maddie and I were standing in literally the second row and when she started singing "Just Walk Away", (my longtime favorite Kelly song) I seriously started SCREAMING and just like jumping as high as I could and I was like, "KELLY!!! KELLY THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG! KELLY!!!" She smiled at us. We're best friends now. Tidbit of Kelly info: She wrote Because of You herself, when she was 16 years old.

On Sunday...we had regional conference in the Marriott Center! It was so so good, I loved all the talks. Especially Elder Holland's because he is my favorite favorite FAVORITE. I love how he speaks with so much power and really makes you listen to whatever he's saying. He inspires me to be better. He's amazing! His talk was about having faith through hard trials and he told some really inspiring pioneer stories, I loved it.

If I had a written list of heroes it would consist of George Washington, my mother, Kelly Clarkson, and Elder Holland. I honestly felt so blessed to recieve so much goodness in one weekend. And I had chocolate milk for lunch!

SYT

Yay! SYT started back up yesterday! (Scera Youth Theater) For those of you who don't know, I teach youth theater classes to kindergarten/first graders at the Scera Theater every week. This will be my 4th year teaching and I'm so excited!

I love love love the kids I teach, they always put me in a better mood. Whenever I'm stressed, it's so fun to go to the Scera and just hang out with my class. (the Alpha Actors is what they're called) They help me remember that life is simple and that it's easy to be hapy. :)

Also...the Alpha Actors are SO funny! Last year we started a tradition where at the beginning of every class, we have Joke Time. The kids can tell any jokes that they've made up, and let me tell you...they are seriously HILARIOUS. They rarely ever make sense and are accompanied by the cutest voices ever...I am always entertained. One of my favorites from last year: "One time...there was a man in a hat driving a car...and then...the hat was over his face so he couldn't see...and he threw the suitcase out of the car!" "Why did Spencer (one of the other teaches) cross the road? ...because he was born with no legs!"

Bring it.

Quote of the Day: "Anything less than the best is a felony."--Vanilla Ice

So, not gonna lie, the first day of classes I was slightly overwhelmed by the workload/expectations, but after being in school for a couple of days, I realize that I can do it. Imma hafta study a LOT every day (like, that's not a lie...I feel like I used to think college people were lying when they said stuff like that but I literally have AT LEAST 4 hours of homework every day so far. And we haven't gotten into the hard stuff yet.) but I seriously feel like I can kick college's butt if I want to. Fifteen credits? Bah. Bring it on BYU.

P.S. After 3 phases of auditioning and cuts, I made it into the BYU Women's Choir! So I will be in that now...I'm sure I'll be posting when concerts are and stuff.

The Moustache Men

Honor Code. We know what it is. Don't cheat, don't lie, don't have sex, don't wear booty shorts and...SHAVE. I was very excited for this rule when I came to BYU--the boys have to shave. :)
For those of you who don't know, I graduated from Timpview High School which is famous for many things and infamous for two: Dr. Bayles and..."Mens'" Week. The superior species (often referred to as the Timpview Girl) is constantly plagued by agrivating, barbarric, and poorly worded/uneducated sexist comments as well as pathetic attempts by their male classmates to grow facial hair. The typical Timpview Boy is just the reason I was excited to come to BYU. Leave behind the immaturity and disgusting whisps of almost non-existant facial growth. But...being here has showed me that BYU also has its downsides.
Back to the honor code. According to various alumni the honor code was introduced somewhere in the 1970's; due to popular fashion at the time, only one type of facial hair is allowed here at the Y and that is (dun dun dun) the moustache. Somewhere in the back of my mind I always knew that moustaches were allowed here, but I never thought anyone would actually take the University up on that offer. I was wrong. They do. They're everywhere and I call the the Moustache Men. And let me tell you, they are all WEIRDIES.
See a moustache. Run. Because it will definately attempt to talk to you and the conversation is guaranteed to be creepy, awkward, and uncomforably long.
